The Japan Meteorological Corporation released its first 2025 cherry blossom forecast on January 9th, which is very exciting news (https://n-kishou.com/corp/news-contents/sakura/?lang=en). According to the report, cherry blossoms in Shizuoka will fully bloom in the first week of April. (next update: 23 Jan.)
Cherry blossoms in full bloom are one of Japan’s most iconic and breathtaking sights. I also look forward to the cherry blossom season every year.
There are thousands of places across Japan where you can enjoy cherry blossoms. I have visited temples and shrines in Kyoto to see cherry blossoms several times before. But after some years, I realized just how beautiful the cherry blossoms in my hometown Shizuoka are, ones I had once taken for granted because they were so familiar to me. In my hometown, people enjoy cherry blossoms in a more local, natural, and relaxed atmosphere. Now, I truly appreciate the beauty of the cherry blossom spots in my hometown, which are just as stunning as those in Kyoto (though cherry blossoms in Kyoto are, of course, breathtaking!)
People in Japan love cherry blossoms because they are beautiful yet fleeting. Their subtle, gentle appearance and delicate, pale pink color captivate many. Shizuoka is quieter than the big cities like Tokyo and Kyoto, and it has a calm, peaceful atmosphere. Here, you may be able to feel the same emotions that Japanese people experience when they see cherry blossoms.
I’d like to share with you the best cherry blossom viewing spots (←Click!), and I’d be truly happy to show you around.
