Finally, the first snowfall of the year was observed on the summit of Mt. Fuji! This was the latest date ever recorded since snow cover observations began in 1894, while the first snowfall usually occurs in early October.
Mt. Fuji actually looks very different in summer, when its peak is black and snow-free. The summer look is striking, but I had been longing for the first snowfall, as the snowy peak is such a symbolic image of Japan.
Winter (from December to February) is a season when the air is clear and visibility is excellent, making Mt. Fuji particularly stunning. The summit is covered in snow, creating a beautiful winter landscape. The snowy peak of Mt. Fuji is especially impressive during this time of year, and we can enjoy this iconic view of Japan until early spring.
